This course consists of two hours of lectures/class discussions and one-hour group discussions/writing tasks. While the two-hour lecture/class equips students with the essential fundamental knowledge of writing English journal papers and conducting English presentations, the one-hour group discussion enables students to practice the knowledge and skills using authentic publications. By the end of the training, students should finish an individual term paper or a collaborative writing project, making use of the moves and techniques learned from the course. In addition, students are provided the opportunity to apply their trained presentation techniques to conduct their simulation poster presentation or/and oral presentation.
* This course is opened specifically for students conducting research in the field of bioenvironmental systems engineering (BSE), so please make sure you have been admitted by the Department office to take this course.

This course is geared towards training BSE students to learn how to write an academic journal research paper in their field. The course will consist of an introduction to academic English and to the framework of each part of an academic paper. Students will also be trained on how to make an oral presentation of their research.

Students need to complete a variety of learning tasks (guided reading/writing practices, class/paired discussions, and individual/collaborative writing tasks) in an attempt to develop their writing skills and better understand the structural features of research papers.
(Note: Those absent in the first week will be assumed to drop this course.)
